Exploring Faith Through Story and Action
Pilot Project Fall 2008
Exploring Faith Through Story and Action is a project of Friends In Faith, a program affiliated with the Interfaith Center at the Presidio and co-sponsored by Young Spirit Foundation. This project is being funded in part by the San Francisco Foundation´s FAITHS Initiative.
Our Vision is to build a corps of committed young people from many faith traditions who will work hand in hand to address issues in their communities through action and together build a positive interfaith future for all of us. This project will provide the skills, tools, access, and practice they need to make the vision a reality, to nurture ongoing interfaith relationships, and to inspire other communities to build on the success they achieve.
Digital Storytelling moves the ancient art of storytelling--conveying wisdom and sharing perspectives on life--into the 21st century by using computers to put together images, words, voice, music, and other media that then play like mini movies. Digital stories turn youth with ideas into artists and provide them a unique and fun opportunity to find their own voices, express themselves creatively, and share their stories with others. The stories become windows into the souls of others, and when viewed in groups can provide amazing insights about how much more alike than different we are. See some examples here.
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is the method that guides our conversations and collaborations. As its name suggests, AI is a way for people to conduct conversations with open hearts and minds and identify the shared values and visions upon which productive relationships can develop.
